I've had some ups and downs in this hobby. Over the last 8 years I've screwed up many things trying to figure out what works, made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot of lessons. I've also read countless books, articles and forums trying to educate myself on the many aspects of reefing. This will be my third attempt at running a successfull mixed nano reef. I like the challenge of the smaller tank because it really forces you to concentrate on what matters the most: water quality.

    Here is the plan:

    EQUIPMENT
    CHECK - 20 gallon high w/ stand
    CHECK - Spectrapure RO/DI
    Glass top
    CHECK - Thermometer
CHECK - Finnex HMO 100W heater
    CHECK - CPR medium aquafuge
    Aquafuge light
CHECK - Tunze doc skimmer 9001
    CHECK - Vortech mp10
    IM MiniMax Desktop reactor
CHECK - Tunze nano osmolator ATO
    CHECK - dry rock
    CHECK - aragonite sand

    TEST KITS
API saltwater master - ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH
Salifert - calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, phosphate

    FILTER MEDIA
    Chaeto
    ROX carbon
    GFO

    LIGHTING
RapidLED DIY Storm controller 6 channel dimmable

Pretty slow right now still gathering equipment. I anticipate a couple months before starting the cycle. Thanks for asking!

LOL well its been a while but...

    We're finally wet!

    newstart.jpg

Spent the last couple days making DI water to fill the tank, got the MP10 running (reef max ~40%), aquafuge circulating and rates set (about 50%), setup the ATO and heating up the water to 74 F.

Once it gets up to temp I'll start mixing in the salt (oceanic) to sg of 1.023 then start cycling with ammonia ~5ppm...
