if you want them gone, don't cut them, the stump will grow back.rip them from the rock using hemostats.if any is left behind, wait for it to get big enough to get ahold of and rip it off again till they are gone.they are not hard to keep under control or get rid of this way unless you can't reach them, then you have a problem.

I have three stocks of my xenia that are attached to the rocks above the main stock. The main stock is attached to a plug that has come off the rock and I want to cut it off so it isn't just dangling and looking bad. I know it stinks but can I do that in my tank and under my water? Will it do anything to the rest of my tank? Can I just take scissors to my stock and cut it? Will it do anything to the branching stocks? It sounds like it won't. I don't have any other stocks coming off it only the ones that are already attached to another rock.

You can cut it or, let it do it's thing. Eventually, the stalk(reaching portion) will get smaller and smaller til' breaks off naturally. Don't be afraid to take a pair of scissors to your xenia though. It's very resilient. And needs to be tamed or cropped periodically.
