Hi I have a number of hermit crabs, and have began adding turbo snails to add to my cuc
The last time I added snails the hermits killed them all, and I was told to add shells for the hermits as this is what they are looking for!

I did this and added shells of all sizes.

I added ten snails yesterday, and they have all been killed with the hermit crabs!

    Where am I going wrong?
I feel like I'm just throwing money down the drain!!!

    Any advice more than welcome

In general, buying turbo snails is throwing your money away. They are from cooler waters than what we keep our tanks at. they slowly cook to death. hermits will do what they want. nothing you can do about them eating the snails. If the snail was upside down it may have been dead already. This is because that cannot right themselves and drown...

If you don't have enough food for the hermits, they will kill snails because they are hungry.

Excuse my ignorance, but what should I feed them?

I keep silversides for my anemone. I just thaw one out once a week and throw it in the tank and let the hermits have fun. i also overfeed my tank each night so they get plenty of food anyway. If a hermit wants to eat the snail it will. As simple as that.

I always just give a bit extra of whatever meaty food I'm feeding my fish that day. Especially if I see them congregating on a piece the fish missed.

Turbo snails suck at eating algea anyway. I had 10 of them 10 months ago and now there are only 2 left. They are REAL big ones though so the hermits didnt get them. They are neat looking though because they are the orange variety.
