New tank, what's this red bumpy stuff?

    My tank is only a week old and it's still cycling but I noticed a lot of this dark red stuff sprouting on the bottom side of my my rocks. FYI I don't have lighting yet if that matters. Thanks.

    It looks like maroon coralline algae to me, but it's hard to tell from the picture. Is it forming a crust like coralline algae or is it easy to remove. Coralline will encrust on the rock.

    Yes, there's different growth forms. Geniculate, non-geniculate, stromatolithic, etc
