[STRIKE]'Oceans for Pathi'[/STRIKE] 'Oceans' is going to be a must-see film that this ocean lover just marked on his calendar (January 27, 2010 general release). Beyond the usual camera in a waterproof box, directors Jacques Cluzaud and Jacques Perrin even used mini remote-controlled helicopters hovering above the water to capture dramatic shots as shown below. This, spare-no-expense underwater film costs over $73 million USD and highlights over 500 hours of filiming in 50 locations that 'captured 80 species of fish, dolphins, whales, squid, lizards, crabs and turtles.'

Filming 'Oceans'

'In an attempt to tell the story of the oceans, we sought to open doors other than those of statistics: those of a fantastic and magical tale, the marvels of the little world of the coral reefs, the heroism of...

Did you hear the news this week? Cree, Inc., one of the leaders in LED manufacturing - LEDs that you will find in several high-end aquarium fixtures such as AquaIllumination's new Modular LED System acheived a new record: Cree's R&D announced that they have hit 186 lumens per watt with a white LED! This is a big jump from current LEDs and foretells that 2010 will be a big year for LED fixtures.

During these hard economic times, CREE is reporting record earnings and is expanding its facilities in North Carolina:

Over the summer the BBC released an incredible series called 'Fragile Paradise' about the South Pacific. If you missed it, check out this clip which highlights the coral restoration efforts of the Corals For Conservation program which began in Fiji in 1999. The growth on the hard corals is stunning and you should start drooling by the 2 minute mark. 'As part of the coral program, we trim bits and pieces off of rare, and where possible temperature tolerant corals, and then grow them to several hundred times the original fragment size to create “mother corals”.'

'Two-year-old mother corals are then trimmed to produce coral seed fragments that the communities grow in the coral farms and restoration sites. All of the coral farms thus produce only second and third generation corals, completely avoiding the negative impact of wild harvesting of corals.'
