I'm in tears right now. I came home from school today to find my coral beauty dead in the bottom. I have had her, until now, for almost a year.

It was in a 10g, temporarily, just until I could get my tank switched over to a reef tank(install overflow, paint beck, etc.) I know the fish shouldn't normally be in this situation, but it was only supposed to be for short while(normally it is in a 29g) & others said it should be all right for a short tim. Yesterday was the 10th day.

The fish acted different in the 10g though. It wasn't swimming as much. I had a hiding place for it, but I think it was stress. I thought maybe it was due to lack of O2 at first, but if that was the case the fish would have inflated its bladder, and swam to the top. It would still be at the top.

It is on the bottom of the tank on its side..lots of loss of color & it doesn't have the scales? The only other stuff in the tank were 8 little blue leg hermit crabs.

I think this may be due to stress & high nitrates. I have not yet tested my NO3, but will today.

Also, what about my rock? I had 15 lbs in there and I am not sure if this can still be used in the 29g?

Can the rock still be used(possibly Nitrate/Ammonia saturated)?

That sucks, sorry for your loss. I used to have a coral beauty, was an awesome fish. In as many days, I have lost a diamond goby, and a purple tilefish.

Rock was already cured when I bought it. I'll have to re-cure it or can it go right back in again? I'm worried about a cycle in the 29g.

If it was already cured, then you don't have to cure it again.

    Sorry about your loss :(

Sorry about your loss, and agree, it was likely stress. I wouldn't worry about the rock though; should be just fine.
