zoa issues

    Ive had this colony of green zoas for a month now and some have these black strands coming outta them and they wont open?? All the others are healthy and standing proud!!:confused: any suggestions??

    Take a soft brush and clean the algae or sediment from around the ployops and the rocks. Or check to see that a jet of water is not by chance blasting them in that spot?

    Black , can u see them in the picture !!?:-/

    tangster , i have moved the whole rock around and blown any possible algae and debris, some are trying to come out but it seems the black stand thingy is stopping progress !! a pair of tweezers maybe!!

    My guess would be regurgitating zooxanthellae.

    yeah mine dont look that bad . the best way to descibe it , looks like a feather duster tube but black and not hollow

    That pic was taken when I took them out of the water and they looked more like blobs then. I couldnt get a good pic of them in the water, so I removed them.

    Good article on zoanthids by Eric Borneman. Husbandry and zoa health problems discussed.

    While I did not see your particular problem discussed...he did cover a number of items that can cause zoanthid demise or poor heath conditiions.

    have you taken a brush and cleaned the area vlowing at it may not remover if I think you have a sponge growth of some type maybe a cyano ? Brush them off
