    I have done another battery of tests. The cycle is moving along nicely,ammonia is down as well as nitrites. The nitrate is spiking. These are done with an API test kit so the results are suspect will test again to confirm. Now I know why people suggest using better test kits.

    The last time I did test the nitrate was dropping but I since put a new rock so that will no doubt cause a minor cycle. Here's a new pic of the tank with light on.

    tank is looking great! I probably need to duck on this one but I think API kits are fine for testing the numbers for a cycle. I doubt that adding one rock will cause a minor cycle. If I'm not mistaken, your nitrate should continue to go up and then you do a water change. Test again and if numbers are good, you can add in some CUC.

    I agree it's the titration test that are the problem. The caps don't fit so snugly so when you shake the tubes to mix some of the water come out making the test not so accurate. Definitely going to need a CUC. Seeing some dino already. Will definitely test this weekend
