I have a 29 gal existing reef tank running on a hob power fliter. I would like to add a sump but have tempered glass. What brand of HOB overflow would you recomend for me? Would you recomend doing this over just adding a canister filter?

In my tank i just have a fluval 105 canister filter running with no protein skimmer and my nitrates, nitrites, phosphates, and ammonia remain at 0. What are yours at?

    Not sure about phosphate
    Amon. is 0
    Nitrite is 0
Nitrate is about 20- I think because the hob power filter has bio fibber that is hard to get the gunk out of??? should I remove this???

Is there one that is less likely to break siphon?

Are you sure the tank is tempered glass? Usually only the bottom is. Most 29 gallon tanks do not use any tempered glass at all.

eShopps won't break the siphon unless you:

    1. Dump the water out of the overflow.
    2. Stop the flow and allow it to sit long enough for the water to evaporate.

Do you plan on either? I turn my pumps off for a period of time during feeding, refill due to evaporation, etc. The siphon continues once power is restored to the pump. It functions just fine. The only thing is finding the sweet spot to stop the gurgling/toilet drain sound.

as long as the flow is fast enough bubbles should not get caught in the u tube on a eshopps brand overflow. i have been using mine for about a year now with no problems.

if you dont want to drill it use it as your sump and upgrade to a 30 long or better yet a 40 breader.
