    My sons xbox has failed again and unfortunately the warranty has expired. Its reading unreadable disk or something like that. I took it apart and tried cleaning the cd drive and lens and it still doesnt work. So I figured I would buy a new drive and install it and hope that fixs the problem. Do I have to flash it? How do you do this? Has anyone tried to diy fix this? I prefer to spend $40 to fix instead of $300 to replace...would rather put $$ towards my new tank build ;D.

    sounds like the optical went out in the drive sir, ive somewhat become a master of modding and fixing and if i cant fix i have the resource to do so. Ill handle it if u lay down a game or 2 in our league ! lol im kiddin send me a pm, chnaces seem good from what i read that its fixable

    My PS3 did the same thing and it was unfixable. Had to get a new one....
