Alright, which would you pick for a computer in the next 2-3 weeks: A i7-960 with a X58 mobo, 6 dimms for ram, or a Sandy Bridge i7-2600K with a P67 mobo, 4 dimms. I have 24GB to put in the system (6 x 4GB @ 1600MHz), but it needs an upgrade sooner than the end of the year.

    No chance in hell haha!

I use the rig for gaming and work, which entails such Adobe resource hogs as Photoshop and After Effects.

By the way, +1 on no chance in hell to go with MAC corp. Talk about overpriced hardware. But, if you're anywhere from 14 to 19 and want to "be like the other cool kids" MAC may be your only shot. Other than that... NEVER!!!

As much as I hate to chime in as a Mac fan lol...not a cool mac kid (kinda). I've had a dell, hp, compaq, etc.... then I bought my first two macs, an Imac and laptop. Took 6 1/2 years for it to finally slow down. Great for graphics, pics, movies, and never had a virus. So I am sold on Mac.

You never had a virus, literally only because of the fact that not enough people use them for hackers to target them. Plus, I paid less and can do more with my machine.

Also, they break and slow down just the way a Windows PC do. I do various IT work on the side, and it's literally the same exact type of nonsense as Windows.

I was looking to upgrade sooner than later (especially with that 3-to-9 month wait until socket 2011) because I currently have a Core 2 Duo, 4G of 1333 DDR3, and 2 fast-yet-cheap SSDs in RAID0 as the Windows drive, but I'm going to start doing more work in Adobe Suite. I still game, too, which is why I was a bit concerned about the 16 lane limitation, but as I'm reading, I'm seeing that as more and more of a moot point.

They were recalled by Intel, BTW. Problems with the chipset; SATA ports would degrade over time, thanks to a defect in manufacturing.

So, I guess it comes down to speed vs RAM. Which do you think would be more beneficial to the purpose, the SB chip that would be around the speed of a Core i7 980 with 16G RAM, or a Core i7 960 with 24G of RAM.
