I currently have an ASM Baby G skimmer which needs a new pump.

There is a guy selling a Berlin XL for $50 with no pump. Would it be worth it to buy the berlin and then a pump for it online/LFS? Or should I buy a pump for my ASM?

55 gal tall with a 20 gal sump

Im extremely new to the hobby, so I am very clueless:-[ as to what is better both for my reef and my wallet.

If it was me i would keep the asm and buy a new pump. I am a huge fan of the ASM G skimmers

I agree. I would rate the ASM as better than the Berlin, not that the Berlin is terrible.
I would retain the factory pump. Sometimes, going to different pumps can cause all sorts of issues.

I think the Gen-X 1000 Pump is the way I should go as more places seem to sell the skimmer with this pump.

if your going to get a different pump, go with the genx as thats what a lot of people run with the ASM

If the sell the exact same model with the gen-x thats fine. I just would be hesitant going to something completely different.
