Here is a picture of my sump.... not as cleaned up as I'd like quite yet... just got the tank transfered and set up. Refugium on the left, pump center, skimmer right. Ca/Alk/Mg dosing next to the sump.

Closer view of dosing and skimmer.

    Lessons Learned.
    1) Egg crate for skimmer shelf with 2" diameter PVC legs. Drill hole in PVC and use zip tie to secure.

    2) Aprroximate 1" between bubble trap baffles and 1" on the under. Mine are too close.

    3) Two part dosing right next to sump is nice.

    4) Cable ties EVERYWHERE to keep cables out of the way.

    5) Put clear tubes inside large black tubes to prevent algae growth inside clear tubes.

    6) Add lots of valves to control flow. Both overflow (how much to refugium and how much to skimmer and return. I feed my chiller loop and GFO/Carbon reactor tapped off my return pump and cycle back into the sump.

    7) Use screw together union joints in strategic places... don't glue everything.

I'll post some better pics tomorrow. I wanted to get a post up because I NEED a probe holder!!!

Final picture.... my kids and I scuba diving at Grand Cayman. Best lesson learned in Reef Aquarium and Sump Building and parenting.... got my son involved in building it. Great fun doing it together. I think he likes the sump more than the tank sometimes.

Here is my sump. My advice is from a mistake. I added the fuge to the left of the sump months later. unfortunately i wasn't thinking. the fuge makes it difficult for me to get to the return pump for maintenance. So i guess my advice is to plan ahead and make sure that you have easy access to everything for maintenance. the easier it is the more likely that you will do the maintenace as often as you should.
