now that i have your attention, i have a 72" coralife aqualite pro-elite, this is the big heavy duty kind that has all the bulbs under a thick piece of glass and fans at both ends. it has 3 175w mh and 2 96w pc antics, i want to upgrade to 3 250w mh. if i replace the ballasts and the bulbs will it burn up the wires in it or anything? it does come in a version for 250's, so it should be able to handle it right? i will be using parts to do this from a hamilton retrofit light. any advice?

I can't speak concerning the fixture, but here's a bump for your question.

While you're waiting, just curious- is there a reason for wanting the extra heat and power consumption? I'd hate to see you go through the trouble just to find that it's too much light. FWIW, you wouldn't be the first to bleach or kill your corals with a lighting "upgrade".
