In an attempt to kill some brown hair algae that is starting to grow on my sand I am going to be running only actinics for about 4-6 days. Will my frogspawn and zoas be OK without daylight bulbs for this long?

I just went a week with day lights out and actinics on for 5 hrs a day and my polyps survived the trip..

Sounds good, did you do it to kill algae too? Did it work?

I have 100+ dwarf ceriths, 10 Florida ceriths, 15 large nerites, 30 nassarius, and 10 hermits. For some reason they don't touch the sand.

As Luna eluded to killing your lights will get ride of the algae bloom but without treating the cause you are likely to have the bloom come back.

I'm pretty sure I know what the cause is. I do weekly water changes with RO water but because I don't have a unit yet I top off with tap...about a gallon a day. I'm going to be getting an RO/DI unit for my birthday in August. Do you think that will most likely help?

Have you tested your tap? It could be a multitude of things. I use tap and nothing but and have not an algae issue. But, we have VERY good tap here.
