    Hello fellowes,

I went on vacation, and when I came back something grew in my tank becasue before I didn't notice it. I saw it make little sand heaps at the bottom. I couldn't resist the tentation and took a big spoon and scooped the sand up to check what was in the sand. Take a look at the pictures in attach. What is it?

    Greetings,

    GM

It doesnt look like a featherduster, I have never seen a fd that made its tube out of sand. Did you buy something new before you went on vacation?

I didn't buy anything but I scooped up some new sand from the sea-bottom, surely it came with the sand. But it made his "house" in my aquarium because it couldn't be that big when I scooped it up because I would have seen it in the sand when I put it in my tank.

It travels under the sand and sometimes it makes like sandheaps or something it "spits" like a little sand spout up through the sand. I rather like it because surely it moves up my sandbottom. But I have now idea what it is.

I got this answer on an e-mail I sent to the university from Giacomo Bernardi:

"What you have here is a polychaete worm by the name of Pectinaria (I am
not sure of the species exactly but it is probably gouldii). It is
commonly known as the ice cream cone worm and it constructs a conical tube
made of a single layer of sand grains. It burrows in sand and uses the
stout chaetae just underneath its operculum to pull itself through the
    sand."
