I have some white strings coming out of my LR and reaching for a Ric I frag I just placed in my tank (will move until I find out what this is), and they look like thin fiber optic cable. They retract back into the rock and I cannot see any kind of base to them. Any idea what they could be? Most importantly, can they sting my other corals? I'm uploading a pic now...

Side note, the same area of this rock occassionally spits out dirt and turns my tank into a snowglobe. What is that?

sounds like some type of worm to me, perhaps tube worms, or bristle worms?

it is some kind of worm, spaghetti worm or something like that. sometimes it may bother the corals. the worm body will be in a tube on the live rock i would super-glue it so it dies. if the corals around it are doing fine and not being bothered by it i would leave it, it is a filter feeder.

At the bottom of this link you will probably find your worm, under tube worms.
