    +1 on M-Ocean Man's sketch. The only difference is I don't perforate the sump return pipe but run them into a filter screen or sock that I change about three times a week. You need to have slower flow through the refug. then through the sump. You need to have a safe place for the pods to grow and breed and not get pummeled with 20 times the tank volume every hour. People on the board have put it, "Slow and swamp like."

    I can agree it would be best if a pump was not involved, but it has been shown that plenty makes it through. Also, I think some folks think of adult amphipods when we say "pods". The big.. or "Tiny" shrimp that are most visible in fuges. But what a fuge mostly provides is a lot of eggs and larvea from a whole host of micro fauna in a thriving fuge. all of that easily makes it through a pump and populates the DT.
