I'd do exactly that! ....If I had a job. For an Vortech MP10, it will take me about 3 months for me to save up for. And thats just one. I suppose Koralia is the next best choice? I was considering Tunze, but they're a bit pricy too.

Some Dielectric Grease on the pins should stop them from sticking.

Thanks for the help. I finally got the bulb out, put the new one in, and it's an actinic bulb. I'd bet the corals would be glowing under it. Would 40 watts be enough for softies and LPS at the least?

I really like the Koralia so far. Good flow and affordable. Here are some I found online for pretty cheap.

40 watts of regular flourescent at the depth of a 55 will not be able to support much photosynthetic life. The actinic is kind of like a support or accent bulb. You need to have a daylight bulb as well, like a 10k.

There are a few lighting options. I like T5 personally, but there is also Metal Halide and LED to choose from.

Do you have any links for affordable lighting and hoods? Unfortunately, only one light can be in my hood at a time. Are there any daylight bulbs that will work with it? Is an actinic bulb really needed in a reef? Or is it just for show and simulating the ocean light?

IMO I would buy a light fixture, http://www.aquatraders.com/Metal-Halide-System-s/10.htm

Reef; preferably just softies and LPS. Thanks for the link.
