What's in your sump/ fuge? I need macro...

I am trying to find the best macro to put in my fuge.
I was going to go Cheato but didn't realize there were so many different kinds.

I have a mix of chaeto and caulerpa prolifera. i dont know how well its working though, it grows fairly slow.

 

I only have chaeto. Caulerpa is illegal in CA.

 

I like chaeto.. I've had ulva and it seems like a nice non invasive macro. The tangs love it as a treat. I would like to get some more of that.

I know a lot of fish stores that sell it in Cali.

caulerpa is illegal in cali however alot of stores still sell it, if you have some do not throw it down the drain or sewer, just toss it in the yard.
it is a highly invasive plant, and is banned in cali because they are having issues with it overgrowing the coasts and wiping out native plants as well as clogging up intakes and drains. with that said i have both caulerpa and cheato in my sumps and the caulerpa by far grows the fastest. i would say about every 2 weeks i have to crop it and feed it to my tangs and my back lawn.

 

I was thinking Chaeto but didn't know about the nutrient absorbsion. I don't want it robbing my corals of anything. I will have to see about getting that ulva and try that first because I have a powder blue who doesn't get any treats. Chaeto is more redly available and like noted, you have to groom it alot. Does ulva rob the DT of any important nutrient I should maybe add? Does anyone else use any other kind with luck? Should I try ulva or does it go sexual and bomb your tank? I have heard nothing but good about Chaeto though... maybe I should stay with what is known to work well???

 

which one can go sexual and mess up your tank

caulerpa or Chaeto...

also which one can you feed the fish in your tank? especially tangs

 

Never heard of any ill effects from Ulva.
