I will be setting up a 110g reef and I'm not sure if all sand is equal. What sand would you use and why?

    Personally I like Aragonite.

I do not like a fine grain sand for two reasons. The fine grain blows around and takes longer to settle, fine grain seems to contribute to issues with cyanobacteria if you do not have enough flow or higher levels of phosphates and nitrates.

Pink is an attractive color but the grain is too small for me. I have not tried black and would like to some day, but I hear others say that they tired of the color and the appearance of detritus contrasted against the black.

I never suggest crushed coral except in maybe a cold water system.

That depends on what you are doing in your tank. Do you want fish that like soft sand and bed in it like wrasse?
    Personally I like a minimal bed 1" to 2"

Some people do not use any substrate.
