    I think money wise it is best to go with "dead" sand and seed with a cup on live sand from a fellow reefer. All the sand will become "live" after a few weeks.

    I have always used aragonite in my tanks, it looks good and IMO the best type to use as it won't trap detritus like larger crushed coral. It also won't get blown around as much by power heads.
