What kind of lighting do I really need...

    Don't the HQI have to be covered in some way?

    :) Thanks for all your help guys with my lighting problem. Still a bit confused w/ all that you need to know but I am sure I will do OK with all your help.

    Found this kind of light and could use any input on the thing.

    48" Aqualight by Coralife : w/2/-65 watt 10,000k and 2- 65 watt true Actinic 03 blue lamp straight pin bas w/ fans.

    What do you all think good for my tank:
    55g with 30lbs of LR (more LR to come)

    This is only 130 watts of light.
    So you could have some mushrooms and such but most corals are needing more watts per gallon.

    Would it not be a total of 260watts since there is 2 bulbs of each making 4 in total? :-/

    yes. This is 260 watts. And plenty of light for a 55 gallon aquarium. You can keep corals even hard corals and clams.

    Sorry I did not see the other 2.

    About the calms under these lights some will do ok and other need more light depending on the type of clam and corals.

    I see what you are saying about most clams. I usually place mine up top closest to the source and they seem to do pretty well. I use the retrofit at about 5inches from water surface.
