I will have room a lot of coral. I just have to knnow what to ask for. I can always just point to things that I like in the LFS but that's a dangerous game since they tend to stock large and rare corals: translation=$$$$.

Yeah.. some of those corals I listed cost Upwards of a hundred bucks for a tiny frag. I would start browsing the local club around D.C. I bought most of those for 15-20 bucks a piece from local guys. A couple I bought in the store for 70ish.

Sadly I don't own many corals yet but the ones that are on the top of my list are dendros and duncans. I also love the white lightning sponge.

Dendro and duncan are two of my favorites. Check out our dendro thread for some pictures and info. Dendros can be rather finicky, but that's part of the fun! Check out Reefnjunkie's dendro - it's spectacular!

Mushrooms are good to start with. The blue mushroom rock just had a few when I got it - it's almost covered now. I love ricordeas and have several. Several of mine have split. I also have a orange yuma that is very bright.

The hammer coral was one of my first - I started with 3 small heads and now it's the size of a baseball.

My favorite zoanthid - Tub's blues

To be honest, I would completely avoid any corals that tend to take over a tank. This includes xenia, anthelia, green star polyps, mushrooms and certain zoanthids. This is especially important if you end up wanting to keep a lot of sps corals.

That being said, I am an sps coral fan, my favorites being the sunset, superman and rainbow montiporas. Because they are encrusting, you have to take care to not place them too close to other montiporas or they will burn each other. I don't believe that they can endure a sting from an acro so they tend to "avoid" growing into each other.

    My ORA 'Joe the Coral'

A nice blue/green color with really large polyps for a SPS.
