Good news, I just found out that hermit crabs won't bust your fingers open like a mantis could. So you could just pick the hermits out by hand, put them in a bucket, then the mantis has that bait all to himself.

(Squllia Mantis) Posess the Spears that have barbs on them to help retreive it's victim.
The ( mantis ) or peacock do have some what of the spears to , but use their clubs as the primary method of hunting.

Also the clubs have been filmed with high speed camras and "clocked" up to 23 meters per second,
( that's fast people ) that's near the accelaration of a small caliper bullet.
And the shrimp's eyes have "depth perception".
= meaning they rely on eye sight to find its prey.
( or and unsuspecting hand that pisses them off and sees it as a threat )

Truly a little beasty of a Preditor.

Mantis shrimp are very clever so it might take you a while to trap it. Can you maybe remove the rock that it's living in?

Sneaky little devil ain't he? Next time you see him hopping into a rock, remove that rock as quickly as possible and see if you can get it out.
