What exactly is purigen? Diy chemipure? Phosguard?

    Maybe it's just marketing to make you buy more since it's cheaper lol. Maybe being in a reactor exposes it to more water. Either way, that's just what I've been told and I've seen it work that way, but only in a reactor, I've never used it in a filte/filter bag.

    I made a diy canister type reactor for matrix carbon mixed with phosguard.. i also bought aluminium oxide balls, the size is bigger though.. will be experimenting soon...

    It's for certain that a reactor will expose any media to more water, and either one may be used either way. My point is that without tumbling (gently!), GFO tends to clump long before it's spent, while Phosguard will not. :)

    FWIW, I use a small amount of Phosguard mixed with Black Diamond carbon in my HOB filters.

    Also today i added aluminium oxide balls to my reactor..
