Hey guys, anyone knows what exactly is seachem purigen? Iv seen similar stuff made by a water treatment company called lanxess. They also make something called levatit fo 33 which is gfo on steroids. Is it similar to phosbond?

About chemiepure, many have opened the bag and have seen mixture of carbon gfo and purigen (mostly) what type of gfo and carbon works for so long? can we make something similar?

As my famiy business is chemicals/pharmaceuticals, some thing like phosguard is sold as activated aluminia (aluminium oxide)

I don't use any of the above and find that they are unnecessary.

Nope. Nothing. I like to control my parameters through water changes. Occasionally I have to dose for alk and calcium.

I only use carbon and filter floss.
I prefer to not use anything until I need to.

Then why do people recomend using po4 removers? Iv also seen many non priteinskimmer tanks growing sps (dominated). Im not using a skimmer and people here (india) are saying ur stupid. Even though iv been into this hobby since 10+ yrs. Im using purigen carbon phosguard and poly filter type filter floss instead of filter sock. I throw away the filterfloss every 2 weeks and replace it with new. Doesnt protwin skimmer do the same thing like filter floss? Its tht tht its more liquid and this is more thich paste like.

Every tank is different. Depending on stocking, feeding, maintenance, etc, etc, some will require PO4 absorbers while others do not.

If someone calls you stupid for doing something that works for your tank, just don't bother talking to them again.

Just like PO4 removers, skimmers are NOT an absolute necessity for every aquarium. Period. FTR, I don't have one, either.

No. Filter floss (or sponges, socks, etc) remove solid particulate matter; protein skimmers remove dissolved (liquid) organics. :)
