    Its just a pain in the neck to clean out the wet/dry filter when all that is under the bio balls. I will cut down on the balls to make it easier. Thanks for all your help.

    Are you using a foam pre filter? The brown stuff sounds like detritus working it's way past the balls and settling on the bottom.

    Yes i am using the pre-filter in the overflow and the filter pad that the water passes over to the bio balls. I just dont know y i had so much detritus?
