I hear ya. Perhaps the spots could be lowered some. Still exciting to see a new light format for aquariums. I am sure higher wattage ones will be down the road.

Same concept, but 4000k is lousy for aquariums. There are probably ones with higher color temp out there though.

AquaticLife uses HID lamps in their combo fixture instead of MH lamps... I haven't seen one running in person nor seen PAR readings but would be interested... They are 150w HID that are set in swivels that you can treat as spot light..

Is that PAR from a single T5 bulb or an array? Wattage?

That is dead center on the sand bed of my tank, close to the glass, so its probably higher in the center(depth wise) of the tank.

The tank is lit with 8 80watt lamps.

man I was wondering about HIDs for cars a couple years ago. I think I posted on here...Cuz I have 2 ballasts and 10000k bulbs just lying around. With a good reflector those things will light up a tank!

So wait, your trying to compare two 35w lamps to an array of 8x 80w lamps? I hate to point out the major bias in this one but surely the 8x 80w array will produce higher PAR :)
