How is your ATO plumbed? One time many years ago the line on mine got bumped and fell out of the sump so when it came on it pumped water into the stand. Luckily I sealed my stand floor so it holds 3 or 4 gallons of water without flooding the room.

Paper towels have always helped me find leaks. Dry up everything you can and put towels all over. Check back every few minutes until one shows signs of water

This sounds like your situation, would account for low sump level and ato running dry.

Think I found the problem. No leaks in the DT. Added some water to the sump, no leaks there.

Ran the system and noticed the rim of my filter sock, which looked like it DESPERATELY needed a cleaning, was hanging over the rim of the sump. I noticed the water was backing up and going over the top of the filter sock!

Removed the filter sock and ran the system over night, no issues so far. Thanks everyone for the input, I really appreciate all the advice!

Guess that's one way to get you to change the filter sock.
