In other words, it's a photosynthetic filter feeder :).

Here's my new one. I've had him/her? for about six weeks now:

    Yup, photosynthetic and filter feeder!
They are calcium hogs so keep an eye on your calcium levels with the presence of anyTridacna and Hippopus clams!

    Agree, looks like a Maxima.

    Very, very nice one.

How big is it? - hard to tell from pic.

Thanks for sharing. That is what 3Reef is all about. 8)

did anybody see the snails on diamondbitsusa's clam pic? are they the snails that eat clams?
i have a bunch of them little white snails in my tank, was hoping that they were baby ceriths
or nassarius. thought about getting a clam, but now i'm not sure about it. you think they are the clam eaters or what?

I would agree. those definetly look like the parasitic snails that EAT your clams. The conical shape is a good tip off. The other is a beautiful gold maxima. As long as they are 3inches or more they do not need to be target feed. Extreme light lovers. And put him on the sand if you can. That is the spot that they thrive. Can catch alot more organics on the bottom as well. Beauty ! Thanks for sharing.
