    last night 1-29-09...
So I'm in a hotel 1800 miles from home and its 1:00 am..the cell phone rings and my wife is franticly explaining that the overflow is empty and "its making lots of noise..(this I can hear in the background) So I calm her down and try to get the facts straight..wow.
So long story short....the dedicated surge/ups for the aqua lifter and the rio 2100 went "dead"...it was a weak link, gone, good .
So with the help of my Daughter, lillys mom, "thank gawd she was there"...we were able to determine problem and exercise a solution.
Solution was obvious...pump the water back up to the tank to full, shut off pumps and turn off valves. Dont try to teach them how to prime the aqua lifter at 1:30 am...;D they had just gotten quite a crash course on all the other chit...and over the phone no less...
it was really a bit insane...the ultimate exercise in patience.;)
so it is running with the the fluval 405 and the powerheads, lighting etc still same...just no fuge/return...
    QUESTION..
So Will it be OK until I return home on Tuesday?
I guess I am looking for some reassureance:-/
Its bad enough I gotta be on the road for the superbowl....
    Thanx ..

FYI...55 gallon reef/fish with 30 gallon return/sump/fuge ..all params exellant when I left on 1-26-09.

I agree with Casey. Just don't feed them. Maintenance of oxygenation and heating are the goals here. I had my livestock in a very small tank for five days with just a small powerhead and a heater. They did just fine.

Not minimal food. No food. I feed my tank twice weekly. They will go without just fine (unless you have anthias). Keep the waste production to an absolute minimum. And kudos to your family for looking after the tank. K+ to you. Then you can pass it to them.

    Got it...
I had a friend come over and do some test...nitrates up from zero, just slightly.
NO more FOOD....all othe params stable.
What about the water in the return/sump/fuge?
I'm still running lights reverse daylight 8 hrs..on the fuge(micro algae/LR/LS) and I have a small UV ster. in the sump that is moving water around in there....would assume fuge is "still" and return area "still".

Hey your very lucky to have a person to even notice something like that! I feel your pain on the being on the road for the super bowl! I have been away from home for almost two weeks now, and I missed my sons one year birthday yesterday too.

Ive been having a freind check on my tank and keep it topped off for me. I would imagine it will be fine as long as its heated and the water is moving still.

Where were the heaters before? In the sump?? My concern would be that the heaters cracked when they were left without water.. I would make sure they are ok before you go putting them in the water and shocking the tank..

Thats all good.....it was in the sump. just put it in the tank.......like in the "old days" ; )

This has actually created an increased interest by my wife that is really cool..I think she was intimadated... shes asking alot more questions...and its easier to know what the "widgit" is when you know how it works...so we will see..it would be alot more fun hobby as a tandem. ; )
