    Looks like a serrated caulerpa brachypus

    Hi Crew.
    <Hi Carlos.>
    Thanks for all your past help, the tank is doing great coming up on 3 years.
    <I'm glad to hear.>
    I recently purchased some Chaeto to restock my refugium. After a few weeks I noted this other algae/plant growing along with it. Actually it is outgrowing it. It has these long leaves which have a bit of a saw-tooth edge to them. It grows along the walls and tends to anchor itself to anything. It grows quite quickly and I keep pruning it back. Any ideas what this could be?
    <A serrated form of Caulerpa brachypus (citing from “The Genus Caulerpa from Central Visayas, Philippines” by Menez & Calumpong: “erect foliar branches proliferous occasionally, ligulate, 5-40 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, with serrate margins or almost entire in a few specimens, irregularly disposed, 2-15 mm distance apart on upper side of stolon.”… Better don’t let it get into your display tank.>
    I have looked in several books and online and can't seem to find a match.
    <Many do not have clear serrations as they are noted in the original descriptions, maybe this is why you did not find a match.>
    Thanks for your help. Cheers Carlos
    <Welcome. Marco.>

    how did you get rid of this? i have this in my tank. i threw the rock and coral its on in the refugium. but im thinking maybe i should get it out of there completely its so small i can see a piece getting past the wall and being shot back up iinto the tank.
    i did kill the small bit that creeped off the rock onto a main rock that cant be removed without tearing the tank apart, i coated the leafs and vine with joe's juice. and it was dead in 3 days. i than hit what i missed with the joes juice again and i hope i got it all.

    am i thinking right. toss the rock and coral thats in the refugium? does anyone have this in their refugium?

    If you get this stuff in your display it is a nightmare to get rid of, probably impossible. I was recently told by my lfs to get a foxface rabbitfish and give it a try, which I did. This fish has been amazing, it devoured every scrap of this weed in two days. 100% recommend the rabbitfish.

    I have brachy, I'll take a pic of it. I don't think I have any prolifera since the move.

    I have no idea Pink. Pull off a couple of "leaves" and the connecting "vine", put it into a piece of white tupperware with some tank water and then I can help you better.
