We recently began testing a Maxspect Gyre prototype in our 80-gallon shallow reef aquarium in the office and quickly realized we'd need a bigger, deeper tank to truly get a feeling of what this revolutionary device can do.

That's just one making all that movement. Did you guys feel it's gonna be a serious contender in our future reefing endeavors?

This may sound cliché, but it's an absolute game-changer. It's powerful, affordable, controllable, you can mount it horizontally or vertically and they'll eventually be different sizes to choose from. It's quiet, easy-to-use... we really don't have anything negative to say about it. We had it in the 80 gallon shallow reef in our office but we couldn't crank it up to full speed.... hence this video! Robert and Joe from our staff took it to Joe's house to really demonstrate its ability to move water.

When do these become available? And would one of these be too much for a 55g?

We should have them available in November and we will announce them via our email Newsletter. In a 55 gallon tank you would need to dial it down as it would definitely cause a sandstorm otherwise. The smaller models are expected to be available early next year which may be a better choice.

I'm interested in longer term usage in regards to maintenance/cleaning. IME, some powerheads die down in performance (cough jebao cough cough jebao) and require cleaning to bring them back up to "new equipment" performance. I've seen this happen in as little as a month on some tanks.

As far as it being controllable what exactly does that mean? At 1:08 in the video the fish really seem content with the flow. They looked really active.
