My new female bellus angelfish came today, yay!, but she is not doing well.

She is not gasping. But she is "treading" water. She's staying in one spot, vertical - with head up, tail down - and just frantically treading water. Kind of like bouncing up and down.

Has anyone seen this? I was thinking stress, but I feel like she should have calmed down by now. I was thinking maybe the water in her bag was horrible (she was shipped), but again, I feel she should be doing better now that she's in clean water.

Could it be a swim bladder problem?

    Thanks for your help!

I'm guessing you did a temp acclimation then dumped her in right?

I'd guess there is some stress and some shock from the abrupt param change (preferable over an ammonia spike though).

How long as she been doing this? I'd give her 24 hrs b4 I'd worry too much

    Thanks guys.

Yes, she looked horrible in the bag (was doing the same bobbing thing), and there was tons of poop, so I just temp acclimated her and dumped her in. I wanted her to get out!

She looks the same today. Poor girl. I hope she gets better!

Was she interested in food when you fed other fish? (this is of course if you did)

    ACtually - yes.

She came out to eat. But she ate only one piece of mysis. So then I tried some flakes and some brine with spirulina, but she wouldn't go after those.

But she kept coming out to where I was feeding, like she was hungry, but wouldn't touch anything.

But she did get one piece of mysis!

So, here's something else weird. When she gets spooked she can shoot in a straight line, like a normal fish....but then when she is not swimming fast, she's treading/bobbing.

If it was the swim bladder, she wouldn't be able to swim normally at all, right? Or can it come and go?

    Bump! :)

Just trying to figure this out.

She did eat quite a bit last night. Brine with spirulina and she was eating off the algae clip.

It sure looks like a SB problem Kacy. It looks like it is struggling to maintain buoyancy. I don't know much about angels but from what I have read, they are susceptible to SBD.
