For what is worth - in the saltwater boat world, brass is not the preferred metal to use - bronze is. They say brass won't last.

That said, probably best to stick to PVC. ;)

When in doubt ... don't. Don't use any metal in your system. Some stainless steel alloys may be ok but I'm not sure which ones.

Not sure why you need a gate valve? More precision in the setting maybe. I'd just use the ball valve that is readily available.

Yup, same here. Only PVC ball valves. I need a couple of those as well. I'll look that site you mentioned up. Thanks!

Thank you very much, my friend! I've been looking for somebody to hint me towards the right direction about this light bulb! I had the bell shaped clip on fixture, just needed the light. Thanks again :)

EDIT: By the way... .. what about red grow lights? Will my cheato mutate and eat my fish with that or will I just have to crop it every now and then like normal?

Im in the Coast Guard, and I can tell you from experience, that salt water running thru Brass is BAD. It will corrode over time, and cause holes which are also really bad. I have seen them used on cutters, when the right fittings werent availible and they dont last long at all.

whats wrong with using sch80 instead of sch40? because BRS carries SCH80.

I used two double female 1" NPT to 3/4" NPT for ~14 hours installing my UV 6x and it nearly nuked my tank. Now the $10 fittings sit in my toolbox for a future Natural Gas to the patio grill project. Took four weeks for my Xenia's(The grow anywhere in anything mofo's) to come back to similar state. Kenya tree shrunk to 20% of its size for a week and all Zoa's were closed for at least 48 hours. GSP's seemed to love it though. Weird. Yes, it was a large fitting with large exposed surface area but 12 hours? It was surreal. Never brass even for overnight. And if you must. Load up with new carbon right away.

There is nothing using sch80 valves instead of sch40. I learned to price shop when setting up our greenhouse and we were buying alot of valves and fittings. I didn't see any reason in spending 3 to 4 times the money for a sch80 valve when a sch40 valve will work. That way I have more money to spend on other equipment.
