Well, a bit of a letdown I'm afraid. I was very psyched to get this burning today, but alas--Sunlight Supply mistakenly sent me only 1 lamp cord. This is the cord that plugs into the ballast and goes to the fixture.

The cords are proprietary, meaning one must use their cord to fit the female. Here's a shot of the female coming off the ballast:

Here is a couple of shots of the cord they sent me--it's the male. It's a 15 foot cord that's made to fit their ballast, and their ballast only. (I should say all Sunlight Supply ballasts).

And here's the ballast itself. It's a nice, solid piece of equipment.

Being an electrician, it's nothing for me to cut their ends off, hit up Home Depot for new male and female cord caps, and install them. But these guys are true kings of capitalism. You'll notice the female connectors coming off the ballast are less than 3 inches long. I would need more slack to install a new female.

    So wait I must.

In the interim, I tested the two new bulbs with the single cord. I connected it to each bulb, one at a time, and made sure the wiring is correct. It works like a champ. The bulbs look pretty intense for $10 bulbs.

As bummed as I am, I suppose I can't complain--they did send me the cords for free since they didn't have the original ballast I ordered. They're $15 per cord.

Stay tuned. It's going to be another week or so. . . :(

What are you using in the meantime for lighting? It has been a week of construction up to today, plus one more week for the cord mix-up, hows your livestock holding up to the process?

    I'm running a TX5 by Aquactinics. It's a 5 bulb T5 fixture.

Great news. Sunlight Supply overnighted the single cord to me. I now have everything I need to wrap this up.

I'll have it burning by midday tomorrow. :)
