ok the first one is a math problem i always wanted to know this and i can not find out the answer i must of asked like 30 people no one knows.

ok lets say you have a 500lb fish tank filled it water, weights 500lb.

now you have a 10 lb fish.
you put the fish in the fish tank, no water overflows.
how much lb does the fish tank weight.

and i think there could be two answer
    one for saltwater
    and one for fresh

    2. the next one is really for me.
do you guys think i should have a lid to my tank for leave it open?

1.) i think the tank would still way 500lbs, considering the fish would be swimming. i thought i had always heard if its in water and free floating that it is near weightless.

2.) that is your choice, it depends on the look you want, the livestock you keep.

    +1

Because fish have swim bladders that control their boyancy, they are completely weightless in water.

I think it would still be the same weight...

Personally I would go without a lid. This will help for better heat & gas exchange(for O2 to the fish).

I would go with a canopy with an open back & door on the front.

If you had a tank sitting on a scale and it was filled with water and the total weighted 500LB and added a 10LB fish the total of the fish and the tank and water would weight 510LB. the fish in the water would seem to weigh less due to bouyency....

Gravity affects all objects on earth the same, so regardless of swim blatters, the tank would weigh 510 lbs. While the fish may SEEM weightless in water, it really isn't weightless.
