No, I don't think a PC will produce enough PAR/PUR for SPS. Also, a T5 unit will be cheaper to operate in the long run as the bulbs are cheaper and last twice as long as PCs. As others have mentioned, you can get some excellent deals on craigslist or ebay.

definitely PCs are not the way to go for SPS. Also remember, they use roughly twice the electricity of T-5s and the bulbs are getting more expensive to replace. So, while it may be cheaper up front, if you do the math, it should cost around $100 per year extra to run compared to the T-5s.

I didn't specify lol. I ment that i would probably go with an odyssea t5 fixture with 4 bulbs. Would that be good enough for sps

    LOL

With higher quality bulbs like Giesemann or ATI, yes that would work.

if you can get a fixture with individual reflectors that would help as well.

i love metal halides probably always will untill i can afford the leds for my size tank..

you would probably be surprised how cheap they are on craigslist sometimes

however i have friends that swear by t5s the love putting a fiji purple in the mix and get certain sps to pop or portray a new color lol
