Trimming frag plugs?

    Anyone have a good method of trimming Plexiglas frag plugs? I have some zoas on a plug that i want to stick to a rock but the stem is too long? Any ideas?;D

    Only if you cut the polyp, if you cut the mat that connects the polyps (down at the base) you'll be fine.

    1+ to dremil and cutting of the mat , dont be gentle and make 1 clean cut

    I've done this so many times to sps, lps and zoas. I've never had an adverse effect on the coral. You may get a little dust on it, but that's usually not a problem. You can either cut the stem or cut the base or cut whatever. I love this technique b/c you can make you tank look a lot more natural.

    I have a clean screwdriver I bought specifically for this - the flat kind. Between this and a razor blade I can usually "pop" the frag off the disc. The glue that was used to connect the frag to the disc becomes my new "plate" that I use to glue it to rock.

    In a few cases, I want to keep the plate for various reasons... I have a clean pair of wire cutters that works well at cutting plastic type plugs how i want.


    But yeah, no big deal. Go for it!
