    Because we can't possibly feed them as much plankton as they would get in the wild and until they reach a size of 3" or more, they rely solely on planktonic food.

    this is strange because my the 1 inch gigas that I bought is now about 2.5 inches and growing.

    I didn't reliase that they switched their diet as they grow. But now that I think about it, it makes total sense.

    I know of many others organisms that have this trait, I just didn't apply it to my claims. Brain fart...

    Yeah it's true. I do suppliment my clams 2 times per week and they seem to do fine.

    I haven't fed phytoplankton to my tank in a long time. And my maxima is growing, however is now over 3". But I lost a little guy not to long ago, in hind site, I wasn't feeding enough phytoplankton.
