I was thinking of getting this model of LED for my refugium (no light in there at the moment): STAR-UFO-50X3W LED Aquarium Light.

Is it too much light? I want to grow chaeto and house pods

    Refugium dimensions are roughly 11"x11"x11"

that looks like it's in the 12000K spectrum range

for a refuguim, you want to be in the 4500K - 6500K range.

    this is what you want...

    Would 12 000K harm macroalgae?

it won't grow it nearly as well.

What's the point in spending $100 to grow macroalgae out of sight and half as fast as a CFL light bulb and fixture you can pick up at a hardware store for $10.

This /\ Get a clip-on light from a hardware store and a 5000-6500K CFL bulb and be done with it.

Thanks, everyone. But are bare bulbs like that safe from salt creep and any tiny amounts of water that can get on it from refugium overflow?

If you really want leds, use a 4;1 ratio of DR:RB, if this is a display refuge there are a few different ones that work well.

Thanks for the tip, didn't know Reefbreeders sold a red LED fuge light. Ordered one with the gooseneck holder last night!
