I'm a week into my cycle (just for reference, 75gal, 75lbs of fully cured LR, 40lbs of LS) and have brown algae growing big time of the rocks and sand. Its also bubbling majorly in the regions with algae growth, tiny little bubbles that slowly jump off the sand.

Also for reference I added a frozen cube of krill (that I had for my established tank) to help give the scums something to munch on.

I've been testing the water daily and am seeing 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and mayyybe 5ppm nitrate (I'm not so good at the color matching game, the girlfriend says it looks more like 0 to her).

    Soooo whats going on?

Note the white things in the picture are bubbles:

diatoms, looks light. normal.. i wouldnt add anything to tank for a few weeks.. (livestock, rock, food, etc.) if you have a powerhead you can aim it at the sand a little to get some current there..

They'll go away after a couple weeks. I just transferred to a new tank and I'm going through them now. They suck.

So diatoms or dinoflagellates? How to tell them apart?

Definitely dinos. Part of the cycle. Like most others said, it will go away on its own. Just takes time, but when it starts to go, it goes quickly
