I cleaned one side today, it's growing well.
I also took out all but about 3 cups of chaeto! Siphoned my sump, did a 40g WC-

All seems well (except for my accidentally dumping a bunch of Bayer dip in my DT yesterday morning.)

So it's been running about 7 weeks.

    Well, my ATS 'went black'.

Recently I inadvertantly/accidentally poured a bunch of Bayer dip I had made up into my sump- which quickly got into my system.
Other than killing the smaller crabs-
It also killed/blackened the algae on the ATS.

    In a week, I've done 2 WC's totalling nearly 100g.
I think it will go back to growing 'green' soon- I'm hoping

Well, small update- still working well

It's starting to grow bright green algae again! Yea- after my little Bayer mishap

The areas in my sump which had been notorius for algae buildup are still free of algae!

    Little update,
Things still going well- still less or no nuisnace algae in the system.

ALL my Chaeto is gone! Just gave the last bit away yesterday.

    Skimmer is offline too!

Came home from surgery on my knee 3 days ago, and my sump areas/basement GFCI had tripped.
Luckily- the skimmer was amoung the first things I tried to see what was tripping it. The OEM pump in my Reef Octopus finally bit the dust. I do plan on getting a new pump- just might be awhile for the skimmer to get back online.

Always impressed with your DIY projects. I have been thinking about and gathering equipment to completely upgrade my fuge. Now, after reading this, I'm rethinking everything and since I have a new tank for the fuge turning that into into an ATS. Once it's running good, taking my fuge off-line.

I'm anxious to see how your system does without the skimmer.

    Thanks, so far OK.
It has been pulling thick, dark skim lately though and I would like to get it back online.
It was pump failure that brought it offline.

I'm not that motivated to get another pump though, If it's not an emergency (and it's not), I don't want to spend the $$, even though the quality pumps are worth it.
The stock one was a 3000L/H pump with nice needle wheel
The OTP = Octopus Turbine Pump 3000.

well, with the ATS, seems there isn't as much of a hurry to get the skimmer back on-line. Glad to hear things are still going well! I'm jealous, I'm having some major algae problems at the moment :( overdue for a good cleaning is part of it and old bulbs (getting new ones soon - coming from Marine Depot)

    Well MIndy/OFK,
I hope things are better, and your nuisnance algae lessens

    Todd

I'm looking at an Aquatrance 3000s, and the Bubble Blaster as well.
But the BB is twice as much as the other. I couldn't imagine it working twice as well however.
YOu know me, with the current state of things status quo,
I'll probably go with the Aquatrance- it is supposed to be a direct fit, no 'Todd' engineering required!
