 - Have been moving other corals around that are affected by shading from this burgeoning monster.

Trying to keep in tank for as long as I can. Days are probably numbered before meeting with chopping block. :-[

    Awfully pretty though.

I have had it for about 4 years I would guess...I severely pruned it back couple of years ago when about half this big.

Was pretty small when I first got it. Maybe 4" high and 4" across when fully open.

Seemed to grow pretty slowly at first, but then started to double in size every 6 months.

Problem with them getting this large is they start shadowing everything around it.

Won't be much longer before am forced to cut this one back also. Probably could have done couple of months ago, but just could not bring self to do so. :-/

This one is parked directly under MH...have couple of others in tank, in less light, that seem to have a much slower growth rate...(at least for now.)

never heard of fragging these guys, when you prune it do they begin to develop as well or do they die off?

Gosh...must be easiest coral to frag there is...just slice and dice. I just shove hunk in small hole in LR and off they go.

To prune, just cut circle on top to size you want (like making a donut) - should do out of tank if possible as lots of possible toxic coral slime released in tank when you cut. (Anthony Calfo method)

You can then frag pieces from part you sliced off if you want.

Here is "best" way to do (according to Sally Jo over at GARF):

    1. Cut the head off of the base as close to the top of stalk as possible. Use clean sharp scissors.
    2. Cut the head into two equal halves.
    3. Starting at the center of the cap cut each half in thin pie shaped slices. (like slicing up like pizza)

    ;)

This one is actually a cutting I took from one chopped out maybe 3 years ago.

They take a while to reach a certain size, then really take off...

Here is pic of it just a year ago...(from thread link posted above...Toadstool Leather Growth)
