you can syringe boiling/hot water on the base so it releases... then grab it with a net or something as it floats up. That is a fairly safe inexpensive way if you only have a few

If it's no big deal to you can remove and nuke the rock do so. I watch the guys at the LFS use Aptasia X, seems to work.

I've also heard of covering them in aqua putty epoxy if they come back after the aptasia X.

Alternately, you could start a species tank for Aptasia, Mojano, bubble algae, cyano, etc and have a tank of bad evil nastiness....after a while toss in a few peppermint shrimp, emerald crabs, nudibranchs, and anything else that might eat through the stuff... might be a fun distraction.

Aptasia X will solve the problemI had a few random ones pop up and this product nukes them in minutes and a day later they are gone.

Thanks for the heads-up gents. I brought out the heavy artillery and used some Blue Life Aiptasia Control. Dropped a 1 cc/ml bomb on its head and he closed up shop! ;D

Good luck, I wish I only had one, I made the crtical mistake about 4 years ago of not removing one aiptasia when I had the chance but now they are everywhere. My peppermint shrimp do a good job and I do aiptasia X in my DT but they are in my sump and macro algae tank. It's so difficult to get them all but they are managable and a fortnightly nuking with aip X is part of the routine now...
