    Looks like a mussel to me. Not a clam or oyster. I wish I could find the exact name for what you have there. I use to cut colonies of them off the jetties when I was younger.

    This was along the northern atlantic shore, but are found in other areas. They can feel/act soft, but are actually hard. Has some give to them and will stick out little feeding tentacles. Kinda look like eyelashes right?

    Can you take it out of the water and kinda move the zoas around? If you can, look at the end of it. If it looks as though the shell is flaking off leaving a silvery blue color it is the mussel I am doing an awful job describing.

    i cant take the zoas/rock that its on out of the water since its a base rock but the base/end of the rock is different from the rest cant get a good enough look at it though to see if it has that coloring

    Honestly, I know you want to know exactly what it is, but without some more info mussel is as close as I can get on this one. When I had home for a week this month I will take a photo and post it.

    Aren't mussels usually like a tan/brownish-gray to a black in coloring though?
