Ah hell paint it green get some fake vines and call it a decoration

My first skimmer was made from two hydrovacs jointed together and i tried to run air in by letting bubbles slowly into the intake of a power head. i could never balance it right so i said the hell with it and just threw an airstone in there. it worked out tolerably for a 29 gallon tank with one fish and some live rock.

now i have a prism skimmer...works about as well but i dont need to fiddle as much :p. i know prisms are great but it worked fine on my 15 gallon and is holding its own on my FOWL 35.

awesome set up though i never thought about using lift tubes...that dirt cheap materials :).

    OK I'm confused.

    5' of 3" PVC.

I ass-u-me that it is a little tall to go in the tank or are you planning on cutting it down? If it's not going in the tank, how are you planning on moving water in and out of it?

I would go a little shorter and a little wider if it were me.

I like the taller. More contact time=more skimmate.

If I'm not mistaken, I know that setup. He is in IL.

OK, I get it. It is a pretty standard downdraft design.

    Good luck.
