I haven't used egg crate before, but I thought there would be more pics.

 

me three. and i will not be doing it again either. I dont have any problems as far as air pockets. But like thatgrimguy I do not like the idea that my organisms and gobies cannot flow freely through the bottom layer of my sand bed. I did it so the pressure of the rock would be spread out over the entire bottom glass and not on just a few spots, but I dont think it really matters that much.

I have built so many custom items using egg create over the years for me it really is the duct tape of our hobby. I always just DOUBLE UP the thickness and it is strong enough for what i ask it to do

A NOTE: This is for members using to set rock scape on as above, next time install pvc cut offs under egg crate lifting an inch or so and then microfana can move freely through sand bed

Where can I go to buy egg crate? I worked at Home Depot for a long time and never saw any that I can remember.

414-242: I would love to see more pics of your current DT. Amazing branching coral, and I'm having a hard time visualizing a raised sand bed. Sounds awesome though!

peridhil: awesome fish prison, egg crate seems like a good way to go if people are wanting to either go top less or create a easy lid. wonder if window screen would work or if it'd block out too much light

 

It's in the lighting section usually near ceiling lights. Its usually called light diffuser or a light grid or something like that.

 

In lowes they keep it near the roof/ceiling tiles. So check there as well.
