    DO you have problems with air pockets in your sandbed?

    No. I just don't like that it restricts the movement of organisms through the sand bed. I don't have anything bad, but I don't see any real benefit either.

    The first picture is of my 7' long elevated sand beds for my 300 gallon build once rock is in place won't see egg crate.

    The second picture is of my 750 reef before adding corals, that's a 1000lbs of branch rock on double egg crate held up with acrylic tubes.

    I don't. My sandbed is about 2" so it doesn't take much up. I also love the stability and piece of mind.

    I didn't go with eggcrate on the bottom of mine, didnt really see a need for it. My rock sits on the bottom with sand around it, and if a rock falls, 3 inches of sand is plenty of cushion to keep it from breaking the bottom.

    thanks! im currently waiting for my dam ro/di unti to make some water so i can fill my tank.. its so cold out its slower than molasses on a cold Vermont morning lol
